With a lake that covers over 20,000 acres, Lake Gaston is a vacationer’s dream! With a depth of 95′ in places, the fishing is bound to be outstanding. Anglers routinely pull in large catches of bass, crappie, yellow perch and catfish. With outstanding fishing, it is little wonder that several major fishing tournaments are held on Lake Gaston every year. Every water-lover isn’t a fisherman. For those non-fishermen, Lake Gaston is still a perfect vacation spot. The water quality of the lake is incredible. Much of the lake’s water is drinkable without any treatment processes. Sailboats and powerboats are welcome here. Look out for fun-seekers to be riding tubes and skis behind those powerboats. Jet skis are extremely popular throughout the lake area. Numerous public boat ramps and marinas dot the shoreline so gas and supplies are easy to come by. In addition to water activities, there are outstanding golf courses nearby. Of course, fine and casual dining establishments offer fresh seafood in addition to other menu items.

To this picturesque setting, add barbeques and fireworks and you could have a Norman Rockwell painting. In fact, barbeque is so important here, that the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce presents the Annual Battle of the Barbecue during Memorial Day weekend each year. It is a hugely successful event and always draws a large crowd. Expect a huge fireworks display on the Saturday nearest the Fourth of July. They light up the sky over the lake in dramatic fashion. During the summer, the Chamber hosts its annual golf tournament. If you can visit in early September, you don’t want to miss the Labor Day Lake Gaston Festival on Labor Day weekend.

While there are ample hotels, motels and condominiums available for vacation rentals, many people opt for private vacation homes. The most desirable rentals have lake access.
